FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Farley Jackmaster Funk - King of House Music in Detroit DEMF Weekend

During the DEMF when Detroit is receiving recognition from around the world as the birthplace of Techno, The Ultimate House Party is the perfect opportunity to demonstrate Detroit’s early connection to Chicago. Chicago House and Detroit Techno, now seen as strictly separate genres, were heavily connected by the interchange between Chicago and Detroit. Detroiters heading to early 1980s Chicago parties looked forward to the exact moment they could tune in to WBMX-FM’s show featuring the Hot Mix 5, a group of five Chicago DJs including Farley Jackmaster Funk.
The Hot Mix 5 was the legendary DJ team which broke House Music for a wider Chicago audience and allowed Farley to first make his name. Born in 1962, Farley began DJing while still a teenager. He also appeared at the legendary Warehouse club (mixing alongside Frankie Knuckles) and then began a residency at the Playground (later the Candy Store), which set in stone his reputation as one of the city's top DJs. In 1986, his cover of Isaac Hayes' "Love Can't Turn Around" made the Top Ten in the UK, introducing Chicago House to the world and influencing countless future House Music producers around the globe.
